Prepaid Mobiles Have Come Of Age
What would most people do today without a mobile cell phone? Most of them would be utterly lost, and even those that don’t consider it a necessity will be quick to admit that it is nevertheless one of modern life’s bigger comforts. Still, prices can be quite steep.
Prepaid phones are often the answer, allowing you to control your expenses precisely. While years ago prepaid mobiles tended to imply having ugly handsets, nowadays you can find all sorts of phones going together with prepaid, which is also known as pay as you go. All kinds of people, and nit only youngsters, use prepaid nowadays.
You will find that nowadays operators in all countries offer prepaid options, and that over and over again their offer is quite vast and full of different options that benefit the consumer. Only a few operators stubbornly refuse to give their customers this payment alternative.
You will find that operators also offer a very broad choice of devices for prepaid subscriptions, going from basic phones for calling and texting, to high-end cellphones that can download emails and access the Internet. Often, the phone will be cheaper with a prepaid card than bought on its own.
While it is true that the handsets themselves seem to have a lower price when bought with a regular contract, this is actually a marketing ploy to lie in the customers. In reality, you will then be bound to a one or two year contract that will ultimately cost you more than the original saving on the phones. The flexibility of prepaid mobile on the other hand means that you will just pay for the services that you used.
Some people are put off by having to recharge their phones once their credit runs out, but in reality this is a minor issue as recharging has become easy and hassle-free. Nowadays you can recharge over the internet, by buying a card at convenience stores and supermarkets, and also via the phone itself, even if you have no credit left. You can even set up the phone to recharge automatically, just by sending a text message.
Don’t worry about not being reachable if your phone is out of credit though, you will still be reachable by inbound calls. Prepaid mobile just means that to call or text, you will have to have credit on the card.
Another advantage of prepaid cards is that they are often full of convenient options: Your phone use may include texting a lot, making international calls, calling only on weekends, or surfing the Internet. Don’t worry, in all these cases there are cheap bolt-ons to your standard prepaid tariffs.
Prepaid mobiles are truly for everyone, whether young or old, male or female, in work or not, with or without kids. Check what is available from operators in your area and you are bound to find a prepaid mobile offer which is just right for you.
What I expect from my mobile phone
Once you have decided which provider you are going to use it can be a nightmare choosing the actual handset model. The media is everywhere telling you which phone you should have. tv commercials, billboards, radio ads, magazine adverts. And of course your friends are always there with the reasons why THEIR mobile phone is the best there is because it has the latest cool ring tone on it.
The important thing is to decide what you want the most from your contract phones. This means (and this if important) what you rely on it for the most. Secondary is what you would LIKE it to do for you.
This is my list of what I expect from my mobile phone:
- Receive and make calls (obviously!)
- Send and receive texts/MMS
- Access the WWW…ok I’ll settle for facebook
- Take some stunning photos (on mad nights out which can be posted to facebook with the main purpose of embarrasing your friends)
- Not charge me extra for doing all the above
- Not dial people by accident when I’m sat watching football (swearing and singing football songs) with my mates
- Not resemble a brick
- Not look lik a credit card
- Not require re-charging after a 30 minute facebook browsing session
What I desire from my mobile phone is to watch the TV I missed from those catch up websites. But that said I wouldn’t sacrifice my essentials to be able to do those and wouldn’t pay the earth for them either. I have a computer at home and to be honest watching catch up TV on my phone when I’m at the pub with friends wouldn’t go down too well.
Looking around there are a number of decent handsets from the main providers and it’s these I prefer to stick too simply because they tend to have the widest choice and their name means they are most likely to provide the best service and have the best customer care (as difficult as that may be to imagine!). So the top mobile phone providers on my list are:
3 mobile – Get the latest 3G mobiles, the best in mobile content and services such as mobile TV, music downloads and mobile Internet, and internet connection with Mobile Broadband.
Nokia – Wide range of mobile phone devices and contract deals and of course the full range of Nokia phones the moment they come onto the market.
